HERNDON..."A PLACE TO COME TO not just a place to drive through"

To my fellow Herndon citizens and neighbors,
My name is Bill Tirrell and I’m asking for your vote on May 4th to elect me to be a member of the next Town Council.
The Town has continued to improve over the past 4 years despite the terrible national economy in which we find ourselves. OUR neighborhoods remain my focus; they must continue to receive first consideration.
I have spent all of my terms on council listening and considering what YOU have to say. I heard you! You said you wanted to be part of the process and have your local government respond to you. You have been involved.
Most importantly – I will continue to listen to you. I evaluate issues on merits, not on the politics of the moment. I will continue to clearly act within the law and I will continue to respect all the Town's residents and businesses. New Commonwealth laws are on the verge of being enacted, the fight for which was led by the current and 2006-2008 councils, to make driving without a license 'cost' more and to allow better control of street solicitation.
The current national economy presents challenges to us at the local level. There are things that I will lead the effort to accomplish to help our residents and businesses.
Finalize the publicly-vetted downtown master plan that I asked to be created
Finalize the needed master plan and needed redevelopment incentives for the land, within the Town, adjoining the Dulles Toll Road
Be mindful of our need to operate within our means
Continue to protect our neighborhoods from being turned into overcrowded slums and our streets from being abused by those with no respect for our laws
I hope you believe, as I do, that the current Town leadership has maintained Herndon’s ‘ship of state’ on a correct course. Maintaining a steady course will, I believe, keep Herndon being the community we want – and many of us remember.
I ask for your vote on May 4th.
